Bank in Rosalia closing

Cash-short visitors of Rosalia may soon be out of luck as the pending closure of the town’s U.S. Bank branch will leave the town without an ATM.

Teri Charest, spokesperson for U.S. Bank’s corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, confirmed Tuesday the branch will be consolidated into the Colfax U.S. Bank branch in June.

The bank sent out letters to its Rosalia customers last Thursday. The letter said accounts and employees will be transferred to the Colfax branch Friday, June 3.

“To enhance our service capabilities, we will be relocating our U.S. Bank Rosalia office...into our branch at...Colfax,” District Manager Michelle Hovey wrote in the letter.

Closure of the U.S. Bank branch will leave Rosalia with two banks, the Bank of Fairfield and the Bank of Whitman. Neither has an ATM.

Charest said the bank is looking at closures of branches in several states. She was uncertain of the overall number of bank branches that might be closed.

The branch was originally built as an Old National Bank and became a U.S. Bank branch when the two banks merged in the 1980s.

Charest said the bank will likely sell its building in the S 500 block of Whitman, but it has no solid plans at this time.
