Hospital highlights - Palliative care

One of the hospital’s goals for 2011 is to start a Palliative Care program. We have a dedicated team of staff, led by our Chief Clinical Officer Denise Fowler diligently planning this new service.

Palliative Care is a comprehensive approach to treating serious illness that focuses on the physical, psychological and spiritual, and existential needs of the patient. Its goal is to achieve the best quality of life available to the patient by relieving suffering and controlling pain and symptoms.

Palliative Care can be provided to anyone with a serious illness who can benefit from the approach.

Residents can learn more about Palliative Care at a luncheon Friday, April 1. Amy Garwood, RN from Family Home Care and Hospice will present an educational session from 11:30 to 12:30 in the Hospital Café Conference Room. The public is invited. Those attending can bring their own lunch or go through the Café line.

To reserve a spot call Pat Howard at hospital extension 567.
