Banner artists feted at library

Seven of the entrants in the fourth annual Colfax Street banner contest display replica plaques of their work at a reception March 3 in the library meeting room at Colfax.

From the left are Bill Reynolds with “Window on the Palouse;” Angela Senter, “Kiu-A-Tan;” Kathy Mayer, “Bursting in Time;” Loretta Paulson, “Watch for Deer Crossing;” Ysabeaux Ng, “River road;” Jerry Jones, “Wimpy,” and Dick Gebhardt, “Fall Colors of the Palouse.” Mayer won the People’s Choice award, and Ng won the youth division award.

Artists unable to attend were Claudia Rolins, “Summer’s Gone;” Craig Whitcomb, “Prairie Flowers;” and Emily Adams, “Ad Hawk & Post Hawk.” Reynolds, who was emcee for the program last week and serves as treasurer for the Arts Council, said the group aims to add more of its banners to the downtown light standards this year.

Mayor Norma Becker and Chamber President Julie Womack gave short talks. Reynolds credited the chamber, city and library with supporting the Arts Council project.
