Raymond E. Wise
A memorial service for Raymond E. Wise, 86, will be Saturday, March 26, at 2 p.m. at the Tekoa Community Church in Tekoa. The Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer will officiate at the service. A private family graveside service will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer, Idaho.
Mr. Wise, a longtime Lovell Valley farmer, died Monday morning, March 21, 2011, at Sullivan Park Care Center in Spokane Valley. Viewing will be at Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa today and Friday, March 24 and 25, from 10 until 5.
Born April 20, 1924, at Pullman, to Elbert and Gertrude Pyle Wise, he was raised at Dusty, attended schools at LaCrosse and graduated from Lacrosse High School in 1942. He married Betty J. Schutz on June 8, 1946, at Endicott. The couple made their home in the Endicott - Diamond area where they farmed.
In 1954, they moved to Tilma east of Tekoa where and farmed there until 1958 when, they purchased a farm in Lovell Valley between Tekoa and Plummer. Mr. Wise raised wheat, peas, lentils and cattle on his Benewah County farm. Although a fire destroyed their home and the family lost everything in 1966, they rebuilt their home and continued farming in Lovell Valley until semi-retiring in 1988. His wife Betty died in December of 2002. He continued to make his home near Plummer until moving to Spokane Valley in 2008.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church near Plummer, the Plummer Good Sam’s RV Club, the Plummer Grange, the Benewah County Senior Citizens and a lifetime member of the Old Time Fiddlers. Ray enjoyed playing the guitar and had played with the Rhythm Kids, a little band that played for dances in the LaCrosse-Endicott area in the early 1940s. Playing at one of these dances is where Ray met his wife Betty.
Survivors include two sons, Tom (Vickie) Wise, Worley, Idaho; Mike (Jill) Wise, Kennewick; two daughters, Linda (Stanley) Berreth, DeSmet, Idaho, and Christy (Bill) Murphy, Carson City, Nev .; three sisters, Doris Meyer, Palmer, Alaska; Bonnie Leinweber, Longview, and Donna Brownell, Dayton; daughter-in-law Carla Jo Hill, Spokane Valley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Kevin J. Kemp
Kevin J. Kemp, 45, long time Colfax resident, died due to liver failure, Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Spokane Hospice House. Services are pending and a full obituary will follow. Bruning Funeral Home is making arrangements.
Joann C. Aldrich
Joann C. Aldrich, 73, Moscow, died Friday, March 18, 2011, at her home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Viewing will be Wednesday from 11-5 and Thursday from 9 until service time. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
Born July 12, 1937, in South Dakota, she moved with her family to Cheney and graduated from high school there.
She met Alan Aldrich in high school and they were married Aug. 10, 1958, in St. John.
They moved to Idaho Falls, where he worked for Simplot Corp. As her children got a little older, Joann worked for several years in the Sears store in Idaho Falls.
They moved to Driggs, Idaho, and in 1983 he began working at WSU as a swine researcher and they moved to Pullman.
For many years, they also kept a “weekend” farm just north of Colfax.
They loved spending time there as a family and fixing up the house and barn.
She enjoyed sewing, square dancing and crocheting.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Pullman.
Mr. Aldrich died in 1993, and she moved to Lewiston and then to Moscow where she worked as a private duty nurse and caregiver and as a housekeeper at Good Samaritan Village.
A breast cancer survivor, she participated in the Relay for Life over the last seven years.
She is survived by her significant other, Richard Tavis, at their home in Moscow; two sons, Kevin and Brad Aldrich, both of Surprise, Ariz .; a brother Reed and a sister, Maurine, and one granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Dalley, in 2002.
