Lois Abegglen

A memorial service for Lois Krueger Abegglen, 89, former Pullman resident who was raised in Colfax, was Tuesday at the Manito United Methodist Church. Mrs. Abegglen died last Wednesday, March 23, 2011, in Spokane. She has lived in Spokane since 1993.

Born March 24, 1921, at Wilcox to Edward and Selma Krueger, she moved to Colfax with her family when she was eight years old and attended school in Colfax. She graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1938 and attended a business school in Seattle. She and Hugh Abegglen were married in 1941. They moved to Pullman in 1953 where they managed three movie theaters. She also worked several years for the City of Pullman.

During their retirement years in Spokane, she made quilts for the Battered Women’s Shelter and was a volunteer at the Southside Activities Center where she was named Member of the Year in 2008. She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are three children, Diane Berger, Spokane; Linda Mulholland, Chandler, Ariz .; and Walter Abegglen, Yakima; three sisters, Marge Hill, Spokane; Evelyn Ensley, Bothell, and Mildred Cocking, Colfax; one brother, Darrell Krueger, Tacoma; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-grandson.

The family suggests memorials go to the YWCA Domestic Violence Safe Shelter or the Manito United Methodist Church.

Evelyn Crowe

Funeral services for Evelyn Crowe, 79, will be Saturday, April 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the Farmington Seventh-day Adventist Church in Farmington. Pastor Erik Buhl of the Oakesdale Presbyterian Church will officiate at the service and burial will follow at the Oakesdale Cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa.

Mrs. Crowe, a longtime Farmington farm wife, died Friday, March 25, at Spokane.

Born Irene Evelyn Bruce, Sept. 30, 1931, at Seltice, to Albert and Irene L. Lipp Bruce, Sr., Evelyn attended Seltice Country School and Tekoa High School where she graduated in 1950. Following high school, she worked as a telephone operator for General Telephone in Tekoa.

Evelyn married Earl Crowe Dec. 10, 1950, at Oakesdale. The couple made their home at Farmington where they farmed and raised their family. Her husband Earl died in December of 1993. Evelyn moved to Spokane in 1995, and has made her home at the Waterford on South Hill for the past 14 months.

Evelyn loved to cook and bake, enjoyed crocheting, and always raised a large flower and vegetable garden. She enjoyed activities with her grandchildren and spending time at the family cabin on Coeur d’Alene Lake. She was an enthusiastic snow skier and a Campfire Girls leader when her daughters were growing up.

Survivors include four daughters, Terry (Paul) Sublette, Valleyford; Debbie (Mike) Crossett, Oakesdale; Lorie Stephenson, Spokane, and Mary McCormack (Ron Rockness), Oakesdale; her sister, Lenora Nelson, Spokane, and her brother Albert Bruce, Jr. of Farmington; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mack McCormack.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Whitman County Fire District No. 10, Oakesdale Station, 202 Hodges Road, Oakesdale, 99158; or to Friends of Hospice, 1610 NE Eastgate Blvd. Ste. 850, Pullman, 99163.
