Guy-Albion Historical Society pie social

The Annual Guy-Albion Historical Society pie social will be Saturday, April 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Albion community center. Entertainment will be provided by the Old Time Fiddlers and the museum rooms will be open for tours. Pie, ice cream, coffee and punch will be available. All ages are welcome.

Pottery art exhibit to open at Dahmen

Local pottery artists Judith Marvin from Kendrick, Idaho, and Terri Walters from Colton and a resident artist of the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown will exhibit pottery along with paintings of pots by local artists in the “Earth and Fire Exhibit” opening April 2 at the Dahmen Barn. A reception with the artists present will be Sunday, April 3, 1 to 4 p.m.

Weather permitting, Judith and Terri will do a pit firing at Dahmen Barn on Saturday April 16.

C & D’s books Warwick

Cowboy poet Dick Warwick will entertain at a dinner show Saturday, April 2, at C & D’s bar & grill in Tekoa. Dinner at 6:30 will include ribs, baked potato, cornbread, salad and baked beans. The show follows.

Gefilte Trout to perform

The Gefilte Trout band will perform folk music from Eastern Europe Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m., at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. The concert will include music in the Jewish klezmer and Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) styles. Admission will be $7 at the door with children under 12 free.

Rounding out the repertoire will be Russian folk songs from the 1940s and Ukrainian folk dances.

Barbershop singers to sing at Moscow

The annual Palouse Harmony Chorus Spring Show will be Saturday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Moscow High School auditorium. The show’s theme is “That Barbershop Style.” The show features barbershop choruses and quartets from around the Inland Empire.

A traditional “Afterglow,” where barbershop singers gather to form quartets to sing more barbershop songs will follow the show at San Miguel’s Family Mexican restaurant in Moscow. A buffet of Mexican dishes will be offered.

Clubs & Youth Groups

Rosalia Garden Club

Rosalia Garden Club will meet April 6 at the home of Alice Hofmann for a 1 p.m. dessert. A craft demonstration will be presented by Joyce DiGiovanni, flower show judge from Coeur d’Alene. She will demonstrate the art of making jewelry out of seeds and other plant materials. Her award winning jewelry has been displayed at the Boston and Philadelphia Flower Shows.

Members are reminded about maintenance and gardening in the Mini-Park starting on the first Monday in April, weather permitting.

DRAMA

The WSU Department of Theatre and Dance will present “The Shape of Things” and “The Laramie Project” during Mom’s weekend and the following week.

“The Shape of Things” will be presented in Jones Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 7-9 and April 14-16 with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. April 9. The show explores the painful questions of life. After a chance meeting in a museum, Evelyn, a sexy, aggressive artist, and Adam, a shy, insecure student, become embroiled in an intense affair.

“The Laramie Project” will be in Wadleigh Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 7-10 and April 14-16 with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10. In October 1998, a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of a prairie outside Laramie, Wyo. His body was not discovered until the next day and he died several days later in an area hospital. The student, Matthew Shepard, was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

ART

WSU Museum of Art will feature the talents of graduate candidates in the Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition, April 8 to May 7. An opening reception will be at 6 p.m. April 8 in the museum gallery. The exhibition is organized by museum curator Keith Wells.

UI Prichard Art Gallery exhibit: “John Wood, On the Edge of Clear Meaning” Feb. 21-April 9, a visual studies workshop traveling exhibition.

A Wii party for youngsters between 7 and 14 will be at the Colfax Library next Wednesday, April 6, from 10:30 to noon. The Wii games test physical and mental reflexes.

Art Wisdom Experience will host a Spring Break Art Camp Adventure for ages 5-14 at the library.

Children’s storytime happens Thursday with Baby Time for ages 0-2 years from 10:10-10:30, Toddler Time for ages 2-3 from 10:30-11:00 and Preschool Time for ages 4 and up from 11:00-11:30.

Meetings and programs scheduled for the Colfax Library include The Friends of Whitman County Library on Tuesday, April 4 at 11 a.m., “Cast your Lines!
