Bulldog girls book split

Colfax softball players finally launched their season Tuesday with a split decision at Ritzville. Colfax took their first game of the year 12-2 over five innings, and the host Broncos booked a 2-0 win with a dramatic finish in the second game.

“It was great just to get to play,” Colfax Coach Terry Eng commented. The Bulldogs to date remained bogged by rain over three previous game dates.

Colfax pitcher Amy Hickman struck out nine Broncos and walked zero in taking the first game.

The Bulldogs rapped six hits and took advantage of 10 walks for the 12-2 win.

Brooke Webber paired singles and Christa Nyholm singled and doubled for Colfax. Lauren Moore and Abby Muir had the other hits.

In the second game, Hickman struck out five and walked just one. The game was tied 0-0 into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Broncs put two runners on the bases with a single and walk.

Chauntel Whitre doubled in both runners.

Colfax in the top of the seventh advanced a runner to second base, but the hosts squelched the scoring threat.

Colfax had five hits with Samantha Pearson tagging two of them. Hickman, Webber and Jordan Sharp had the other hits.

Colfax Friday will roll to Kettle Falls to make up a pair of games which was initially booked at Colfax last Saturday. The Bulldogs bumped the game back to this Saturday at McDonald, but wet field conditions at home led them to advance the doubleheader back a day and make the long trip to Kettle, Coach Eng said.
