Library director earns awards

Kristie Kirkpatrick, Whitman County Library Director, was a double

award winner at the Washington Library Association (WLA) Awards Luncheon in Yakima last Friday. Kirkpatrick received the Merit Awards for Advances in Library Service for her efforts in Whitman County and for Outstanding Performance as related to her work over the past five years as the WLA Federal Relations co-coordinator. Kirkpatrick is pictured with Former State Librarian Jan Walsh and Acting State Librarian Rand Simmons who teamed on Federal Relations efforts and also received awards at Friday’s luncheon.

Pataha concert, dedication

Organist Mark Newman of Clarkston and pianist Jon Van Vogt of Pomeroy will present a Lenten/Easter concert in the Houser Room at Pataha Flour Mill, near Pomeroy on Palm Sunday, April 17, starting at 4 p.m. The concert will celebrate the acquisition of an A.B. Chase grand piano and the recent refurbishing of a three-manuel Conn organ. Formal dedication of the instruments will be included.

A free will offering will be received for the continued revitalization and preservation of the Flour Mill. Refreshments will follow the concert.

Scholz recital set

Matthew Scholz, member of the 2006 class at Colfax High School who has studied piano performance at the University of Idaho, will give a senior recital April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Haddock Hall at the Lionel Hampton School of Music building on campus. Scholz, who has presented recitals in Colfax, said he also plans to give a performance here in May.
