The University of Idaho’s Prichard Art Gallery on Main Street in Moscow will present the thesis exhibition by master of fine arts students until May 14. Work of six students will be on display.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The Colfax Library will host an “Egg-Stravaganza” for youths in grades 1 - 4 today Thursday, April 21 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Kids may ride bus #5 with a note from parent to enjoy stories, crafts, games and more. All branches of Whitman County Library will close Sunday, April 24, for Easter.

The St. John Library’s beginning Excel class April 14 drew a mix of local business owners and job seekers to learn more about this flexible spreadsheet program. The class was provided by the Whitman County Library through its Renew Washington Grant.

Next class will be in St. John May 19 at 6:30 p.m. Instructor Angela Garza will show how to use mail merge to create a set of documents personalized to multiple people.

Colton Library news

The Colton Library’s Third Thursday program April 21 will revolve around Easter with an Easter craft and color pages for the kids. A snack will be provided. Colton’s Third Thursday program is after school at 3:15 p.m. for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Colton Library’s penny drive will continue through April 16. Patrons are encouraged to feed the penny pig with their spare change. All proceeds stay at the Colton Library and go towards children’s programming.

Garfield sets 23rd Easter egg hunt

Garfield’s 23th annual Easter egg hunt will be Saturday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at the Garfield-Palouse Middle School playground. All children, ages 2 through 9, are encouraged to join in the fun of finding the candy-filled eggs.

This event is sponsored by the Garfield Lions Club in partnership with the Garfield Community Church, the Garfield Christian Fellowship, and the Garfield United Methodist Church.

Zornes scholarship goes to WSU student

Rachel Wanty, a student in WSU neuroscience department from Arvada, Colo., was presented a $1,000 Peter Zornes memorial scholarhip April 8 during a department’s awards ceremony on Moms’ weekend. The scholarship was established by Zorne’s parents, Kathy and Tom Zornes of Oakesdale.

Funds for the scholarship are generated by the annual golf tournament and auction hosted by the Zornes family.

UW honor students

Three area students named to the dean’s list for the winter quarter at the University of Washington were Angela Herr of Colfax, Geraldine Steiger of LaCrosse and Jerek West of St. John. Students qualify for the roll by earning a grade average of 3.5 or high on at lease 12 graded credits.

Raffle date nears on Endicott library

Approximately 10 days remain to purchase raffle tickets for the Endicott Library Renovation drawing. The drawing will be Tuesday, May 3. Prizes include an outdoor fireplace donated by the McGregor Co. and two $100 gift certificates from Colfax Rosauers.

Tickets are available for $1 each from any branch of the Whitman County Library or from Endicott Friends of the Library Barbara Strader, Gail Bilow, Marg Schmick, Steve Sylvester and Kathleen Richter.

The project aims to help fund the renovation for the library to provide windows and natural light, new air filtration system, improved computer access, and an ADA accessible restroom.

The library building has suffered a lot of damage over the years from a leaking roof. Cost of the project is estimated at $120,000.

Michelle Maley earns honors scholarship

Michelle Maley was awarded a $1,000 Sidney R. Buckley and Daughter Honors Scholarship from the Washington State University Honors College. Students receiving this award must have grown up in a rural area in eastern Washington, possess some fina ncial need and be in good standing with the Honors College.

A 2008 graduate of Rosalia High School, she is the daughter of Shawnda and Graig Maley of Thornton. She plans to graduate from WSU in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in business management and political science, and a minor in Spanish.

Maley is a university recreation membership services attendant and a member of Pi Sigma Alpha. She has maintained a cumulative 4.0 grade average and has been listed on the president’s honor roll since starting college.
