LaCrosse Schools hosted the district’s first science fair last Wednesday. Eighteen students in grades six through eight presented and displayed projects. First place was awarded to Weston Miller for his catapult project which tested the effect of lever arm length on projectile distance.
Jessica Gusky was awarded second place for her project exploring the effect of temperature on the baking soda and vinegar reaction rate.
Cole Evans was awarded third place for his experiment on natural cockroach repellants.
Mrs. Ruth Dorman of LaCrosse hosted Christeen Olson of Fairfield, registrar of the Esther Reed DAR Chapter, and Julie Pittmann of Rosalia, State DAR Chaplain, at her home Saturday April 23. Ruth received acceptance into DAR by having a Revolutionary War patriot in her direct family.
Ruth’s family dates back to the very early years of America, including a member arriving on the Mayflower.
Ruth, Julie, and Christeen enjoyed lunch at the LaCrosse Teapot Cafe.
Ruth is a retired school teacher, author of local history books and the widow of Don Dorman, a WWII veteran and former Prisoner of War.
Ruth’s patriot information will be listed in Washington, D.C. at the DAR national headquarters. DAR has more than 165,000 members. All show lineage to Revolutionary War patriots. The 120 year old organization is a service group with emphasis on patriotism, education and historic preservation.
