Hackers book busy week on the road
County golfers booked a busy week, traveling to tournaments all over the state.
The road trips began last Thursday, with the St. John/Endicott girls traveling to Yakima for the Wally Johnson Invitational tourney.
Michal Schuster placed 10th in the 126-girl tournament with a 96, while sister Erin shot a 103 to finish 24th.
The boys traveled to Columbia Point in Kennewick for a District 9 all boys invite.
Casey Brown of Tekoa/Oakesdale /Rosalia was the top local duffer, finishing the 18-hole course in 80 strokes. Dakota White of SJE was the next highest local with a 91, followed by Cory Brown of TOR at 103, Grant Gelhaus of TOR at 103, Dustin Patrick of SJE at 106, John Quinton of SJE at 114, Zack Zimmerman, Damian Loucks and Zane Brown of TOR, all at 126; Hunter Fairbanks of SJE at 127, R.J. Baltierra of SJE at 127 and Alex McCue of SJE at 155.
Ryan Baumgart of DeSales took the medal with a one-over-par 73.
Saturday saw St. John/Endicott at Pomeroy in a dual meet on the hilly par 62 Pomeroy links.
SJE scores were: White and Quinton tied at 83, William Knott 102, McCue 123 and Fairbanks 125. Tyson Feider of Pomeroy topped scoring with a 78.
The SJE girl scores were: Michal Schuster 79, Erin Schuster 87 and Erin Bailey 111. Pomeroy has no girl golfers.
Tuesday, the locals traveled to the Wine Valley Golf Course between Walla Walla and Touchet for a District 9 match hosted by DeSales.
Casey Brown again topped boys with an 84, and Baumgart shot a 75 to claim the medal. Michal Schuster shot 94 to book the top girls’ score.
Other boys in the tourney were: Quinton SJE 90, White SJE 97, Knott SJE 100, Cory Brown TOR 101, Patrick SJE 110, Zane Brown TOR 117 and Fairbanks SJE 133.
Other area scores for the girls were: Erin Schuster, SJE 95, Erin Bailey SJE 113, Nicole Zimmerman TOR 133, Lisa Harper TOR 135.
State special permit deadline approaching
Hunters have through May 18 to apply for special Washington hunting permits for fall deer, elk, mountain goat, moose, bighorn sheep and turkey.
Permit winners will be selected by random drawings conducted by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife in late June. Special permits allow hunters to hunt outside general hunting seasons. Applications are availabe at license vendors or on the WDFW web site.
Applicants must have licenses for regular hunting seasons to qualify. Applications for the special permits are $6.50 for residents, $60.50 for non-residents and $4.10 for youth under 16.
