Spokane Jr. Livestock entrants collect awards

Jill and Art Swannack and their children Carmen, Leah and Owen Swannack and Thomas Wu and Miguel Pineda, their two exchange students, attended the Spokane Junior Livestock Show at the Spokane Fairgrounds May 4-8 .

Jill, is the leader of the Sprague Lamont 4H Club that won the Jim Seabeck award for outstanding club. The St. John FFA won the Jim Seabeck award for outstanding FFA Chapter.

The kids showed both sheep and meat goats at the fair.

Carmen received Grand Champion in FFA speech, Grand Champion FFA lads and ladies lead, Reserve Champion FFA Freshman/Sophomore Sheep fitting and showing and Grand Champion FFA Freshman/Sophomore Goat Fitting and Showing.

Leah Swannack won Reserve Champion in 4H intermediate Lads and Ladies lead.

Owen Swannack won Reserve Champion on Goat Fitting and Showing for 4H juniors.

Miguel Pineda won Grand Champion senior 4H Goat Fitting and Showing and was in the Round Robin contest where he had to show steers, hogs, goats and sheep.

Miguel is from downtown Madrid, Spain and had never showed any livestock prior to coming to America.

He said the whole experience was “cool”.

He also said the steers were “really big”.

Thomas Wu won the Reserve Champion FFA market Goat.

Thomas also was in the finals for Goat fitting and showing contest.

Pineda got 5th place in Livestock Judging for 4H senior division and Owen Swannack was 10th in the 4H Junior division of Livestock Judging.

Carl Harder is recuperating at home from shoulder surgery.

Diane and Allen Cook had as guests Easter Peggy Miller, Scot and Celeste Miller and Liz from Harrington, Sandra and Dennis Miller and children from Kalotus, Randy and Luke Shaw of Spokane.
