Colfax catcher Kellen Morgan gets ready to bag a toss for a play at the plate in the first game against Northwest Christian Wednesday.
Bulldog Pitcher JJ Robinson hustled to back up Morgan who tagged the NWC runner.
Colfax baseball players rolled out four wins over three days last week to cap a 16-0 run in the Bi-County League.
The finish again leaves the Bulldogs on top of the league with most of the pack starting elimination games this week.
Colfax will be out of action until Tuesday, May 17, when they go to Avista Stadium and attempt to lock up one of the slots in the official state tournament.
The state format again calls for a 16-team regional round the following weekend with the final four landing at Yakima for another two-game title round.
Three of the four wins last week were on comebacks with two of them in the last chance seventh innings.
Last week’s four-game finish over three days, necessitated by the worst spring for rainouts, meant the Bulldogs had to call on their number-four and number-five pitchers, Brady Ellis and Patrick Jacobs, to keep the Bulldogs in range of salvaging the wins.
Both were successful.
Coach Mike Parrish said last week enough of the league’s game results were booked to indicate the Bulldogs might have had the league title already wrapped before the final four tilts.
Last Wednesday, Colfax hosted Northwest Christina at McDonald Park with a 4-2 win in the opener and the a dramatic 3-2 seventh-inning win in the second game.
In the first game, JJ Robinson limited the Crusaders to four hits.
The Bulldogs stacked a 3-0 lead after two innings and weathered a two-run charge by the Cru club in the top of the sixth.
Ellis had two of the seven Colfax hits with Brandon Heiser, Robinton, Alex Teade, Kellen Morgan and Cody Evans getting the other raps.
In the second game, NWC jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and looked like they would end the Colfax string and 13.
Alex Teade and NWC’s Dan Holland battled for the win and each allowed five hits.
Colfax scored a run in the fourth, but still trailed by a run until they looped two in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 win and a 14-0 record.
The deciding run was scored from a walk-off walk to Teade who had a 3-1 count before he eyed ball four.
The rally started with a single by Heiser, an advance on a failed NWC pickoff and then an RBI hit by Robinson.
Tyler McNannay and Damon Buck walked to load the bases behind Robinson before Teade drew the walk.
that moved Robinson across the plate for the deciding run.
Robinson also had another hit; Teade doubled and McNannay singled for the five Bulldog hits.
Friday against Springdale, the Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to nip the Chargers 13-12 in a battle.
Colfax had a 6-3 lead after three innings, but Springdale erupted for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning.
McNannay had the deciding hit, a sacrifice fly that scored Robinson.
The game went to a 12-12 tie after Robinson hit a two-run double.
McNannay started for Colfax and was relieved by Ellis who was able to hold off the Charger in the seventh to remain in range.
A big hit in the first game was homer by Matt St. Mary, who was the Colfax catcher for both games while starter Kellen Morgan traveled with the jazz band.
Going into the second game, Coach Mike Parrish called Ellis back in action to start. Springdale got out of the box again with four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
Patrick Jacobs was then called in from his first-base perch and he slowed down the Charger bats.
Colfax salvaged the win with a big eight-run charge in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 13-9 win.
Ellis, Jacobs and Robinson each had two of the 11 Colfax hits.
Robinson hit another first for McDonald, when he rapped a homer off the new Bulldog scoreboard.
Springdale committed four errors to partially offset their 13-11 hit advantage.
