SE softball teams to play at Colfax

Four SE 1B softball teams have been booked at Colfax next Tuesday for the district qualifier, first elimination step on the road to state. Colton’s Wildcats, who booked two wins over Garfield/Palouse last Thursday, will lead the pack with a 7-0 record posted before the weekend.

The playoff slate matches Colton against number-four SJE, and Touchet against Garfield/Palouse. Losers of those games will be done for the season. The two winners will collide for the one and two seeds for the regional show Saturday at Medical Lake.

Pomeroy, which went winless in the league run was bumped from the playoff scene.

The two districts have been assigned four slots in the 1B tourney which will be the following weekend at Yakima. District 7 will send four teams to the district show. Format for the playoff will require the two SE qualifiers out of Colfax to face the third and fourth entrants from District 7. The two winners are assured of a state slot and will play the top two District 7 finishers to decided state seeding.

Colton Thursday shut out the Vikings 13-0 in the first game Thursday at Garfield with Mikayla Nygreen throwing a five hitter.

Colton stacked 16 hits in the first game with Megan Heitstuman and Jena Moser each getting three hits and Haley Moser, Nygreen, Erin Weber, Taylor Nilson each getting two hits. Nygreen, Heitstuman and Kaitlin Druffel each tripled.

The second game at Garfield Thursday was a different story with Emily Witthuhn shutting down the Wildcats bats for the first five innings. The Vikes scored one run in the first and kept that lead until Colton tied it at 1-1 in the top of the sixth. The Wildcats then scored 10 in the seventh with Taylor Nilson rapping a three-run triple for the Wildcat lead. It ended at 11-1.

Nilson pitched for Colton and allowed the Vikes just three hits.

Jena Moser had four hits with a double to lead the Colton offense.

Six errors hurt the Vikings. .

Asotin Monday pegged a 13-2 non-league win over the Vikings with a 14-hit attack at Asotin. The Vikings had just two hits for the trop, one each by Emily and Erin Witthuhn.

Asotin at the sent of the week was tied with Dayton for number-two in the SE 2B standings.

Waitsburg-Prescott leads the 2B race with a 10-2 mark.

Tekoa/Oakesdale /Rosalia Tuesday advanced to 5-5 in 2B with two wins over winless Tri-Cities Prep. The `hawks are now third in the league with two games today against DeSales in a matchup which could decide the number-three slot in the league. .

The `hawks Tuesday rapped 20 hits for a 13-3 over Tri-Cities Prep in the first game at Tekoa. They led 8-2 after three innings. Kiah Madison homered for TOR.

In the second game, the `hawks rolled up another 23 hits for a 17-7 win.
