Candidates can begin sending their official filings Friday for dozens of positions on various town councils, school boards and rural districts throughout Whitman County that will be up for election this fall.
Those wishing to throw their hats in the ring can mail candidacy filings to the county auditor’s office through 5 p.m. June 10.
In-person filing period will extend to June 6 through 5 p.m. An extended secondary filing period for offices that do not have any candidates file will run from June 13 through June 16.
Candidates can also file on-line: http://www.secstate.wa.gov.
Candidates for each position will face off in the Aug. 16 primary with the top two vote recipients moving forward to the November general election.
The only countywide positions on the August ballot will be for seats on the Port of Whitman County’s board of commissioners. The six-year seat representing District 2 will be up. It is currently held by three-term incumbent Dan Boone of Pullman.
Port Commissioner Don Cox’s District 3 seat will also be on the ballot. Cox was appointed last year to fill the seat vacated by the death of Bob Gronholz. Because Gronholz was re-elected in 2009, the District 3 seat will be on the ballot again in 2015.
