Musical ‘Annie’ set for Endicott stage

Endicott-St. John Middle School will stage its production of the Broadway musical Annie next Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. on the stage in the Endicott multi-purpose room. With a cast of 25, director Mary Bertrand promises the production will be a lively affair.

Next Thursday’s show is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $4 for children.

A dinner theatre production will be staged for families of ESJ students Tuesday, May 24, at 6 p.m. Tickets for the dinner theatre production will be $10 or $35 for three or more.

Mail merge class tonight

St. John Library will host an evening computer class tonight, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. Instructor Angela Garza will show how to use mail merge to create a set of documents personalized to multiple people. Each document has the same kind of information.

Graduates dealing with invitations and thank you notes or businesses working on a customer mailing can make use of this program.

Healthy living series

A six-week class on healthy living with chronic conditions will begin next Wednesday, May 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Whitman Senior Living in Pullman. For information or to register, contact the Council on Aging & Human Services. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Participants will receive a book, Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, developed specifically for the class. A donation of $25 to help defray the cost of the book is suggested, but not required to attend the class. Scholarships are available upon request.

Colfax Boy Scouts

Scouts in Colfax Troop 595 baked peach and cherry cobblers in Dutch ovens Sunday in back of the parking lot at the United Methodist Church. The cobblers were served to the members of the congregation during social time after the Sunday service at the church.

The Dutch oven baking was completed about 40 minutes before the heavy rain hit Sunday.

Thrify Grandmothers

Members conducted their May meeting in the CETC building. Twenty-two applications for scholarships were reviewed and 10 of the applications will receive a $500 scholarship. The club also donated $500 to a local family facing a medical emergency.

Club members were treated to a spring luncheon at Hill Ray by the Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday and appreciate all who sponsored a grandmother.

The gate in back of the shop is proving a benefit in keeping the alley tidy. The gate is open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. for the convenience of residents who drop off donations.

The club appreciates the support they receive from donors and from people who patronize the shop.

Third Thursday Club theme for youngsters in grades 1- 4 will be “Let’s Game” today, Thursday, May 19, from 3:30- 4:30 p.m. at the Colfax Library. Participants can ride bus 5 with a note from a parent. Call the library for more informaiton.

Colfax Library will host a downloadable audio book class Friday, May 20, from 3-4 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. Stop by and get some one-on-one help with downloading and transferring audio books to mp3, iPod or iPod touch.

Popular children’s author Kenn Nesbitt will entertain Jennings Elementary students Monday, May 23 at 9:30 a.m. This program is co-sponsored by the Foundation of Early Learning, Whitman County Library, Spokane Public and Spokane Valley libraries. The public is invited to this special presentation but are asked to call Jennings Elementary School if they plan to attend.

All branches of Whitman County Library will be closed May 28 – 30 for Memorial Day Weekend. Due dates for library materials have been extended.

Educational classes for area preschoolers are Thursdays in the Colfax Library with Baby Time programs at 10:10 a.m., Toddler Time at 10:30 a.m. and Preschool Time at 11:00 a.m. Play and Learn classes are a more interactive version that includes parents and caregivers in the child’s learning experience each Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
