Colfax qualifier moved back

Colfax baseball players remained in limbo at the start of the week after rains Sunday and Monday took Avista Field out of action for the playoff round Tuesday. The first round of the playoff was moved back to Wednesday.

The playoff session at Avista has been slated to determine seeding for the NE district in the state 2B top 16 regional round Saturday. The regional round, with one session in Spokane, will finish with four survivors from the four state sites headed back to Yakima May 27-28 for two days to title action.

Colfax Coach Mike Parrish noted the one-day slip in the district schedule at Avista could put the squeeze on the pitching lineup which will be needed in the regional round Saturday.

A win over Kettle would net the number-one seed and a return to Spokane for the regionals at Shadle Park. The number-two NE club will travel to Walla Walla for the regionals where the SE’s DeSales will be one of the competitors.

The number-three team will be at Spokane, and the number-four team will be at Mossyrock.

“We don’t wan to go the Mossyrock,” Parrish noted.

One change in the Colfax state playoff outlook emerged Saturday on McDonald Field when Liberty Christian bumped Asotin 3-2 in the first round of the SE playoffs.

The Panthers own the only two defeats over Colfax this year and figured to be some place on the playoff trail for a possible third matchup in the state elmins.

Asotin Pitcher Dusty Lyons took the loss at Colfax after pitching a one-hitter for the Panthers. Asotin finished with a 15-7 mark.
