SE district sends qualifiers to State meet

Track qualifiers from Whitman 2B combo teams will compete for state medals Friday and Saturday at the state's three division combo meet at EWU in Cheney. Top two qualifiers in the two-day SE meet at Walla Walla advance to the state show.

Viking senior Chad Redman tops the local entry with wins in both hurdle events at Martin Field. Redman also booked a number-two finish in the high jump.

LaCrosse freshman Darcy Stamper cleared a 6-2 to win the high jump for the SJLW combo team. Stamper hit the 6-2, his best for the season, after topping the prelims at 6-0.

Viking Junior Jeff Kent won the pole vault at 10-0 and booked seconds in the 100 and 200 sprints. Kent won the prelim in the 100 at 11.57, but Antonio Thompkins of WP prevailed in the finals.

Viking junior Emma Akin won the triple jump by over six feet

Heather Siegel, SJE freshman, again dominated the 3200 with a 30-plus second win and will be in the state race which is booked for Friday at Cheney.

SJE's Annie Bailey, also a freshman, uncorked a 97-7 to qualify with a second in the javelin, two feet back of the winning toss by Asotin's Brielle Whittaker.

Jessica Hardy of LaCrosse qualified with seconds in both sprint events behind WP's amazing Kristin Porter who booked wins in the 100, 200 and 400 for the Cardinals. Hardy also qualified with a second in the long jump at 14-07.

SJE sophomore Kaleb Simon won the triple jump by a margin of 10 feet. He also booked a second in the long jump.

Earl Gaines of TOR booked a second behind Simon in the triple jump to make the state trip.
