Historical Society issues call for post-1940 photos for book
Whitman County Historical Society plans to produce a pictorial history on Whitman County and seeks assistance from residents in all of the communities in the county, according to Ed Garretson, editor of the society’s quarterly.
The pictorial is intended to provide a history of life in the county emphasizing the period from 1940 to the present, Garretson said.
Proceeds from book sales will go toward funding the many WCHS projects throughout the county, such as the Perkins House in Colfax and the Roy Chatters Printing Museum in Palouse.
“As a county, we have done a wonderful job of preserving photographs from the first town structures to World War II, but the WCHS is in very short supply of photographs from the last 70 years,” Garretson said.
Photographs of harvests, town festivals, parades, fairs, sport competitions recreation activities, and youth and adult clubs are a few examples of what the book could include.
