Rebecca Nelson, a 2010 graduate of Garfield/ Palouse High School, wa among those honored at a reception for recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award hosted by Governor Christine Gregoire at the Governors’ Mansion in Olympia June 7.
Rebecca’s project, Music and Movement, addressed the need to provide for youth activities other than sports within her community. She created a dance curriculum with 30 activities to be used in the school Physical Education program, conducted four workshops and worked with the Palouse Library branch, Palouse School District and her dance instructor, Camille Wadleigh, to complete her project.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. To complete this award, girls must identify a need in their community and create a program or project which addresses that need. The typical award project takes more than 100 hours.
