LaCrosse D.C. Kids report on trip

The DC Kids have returned from a week-long tour of Washington, D.C., and the outlying areas. Twenty-two students and nine chaperones left Sunday, June 20, and returned Monday, June 27.

Highlights of the trip included visiting Monticello, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg with a foot and ghost tour, Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and changing of the guards, Library of Congress, the Holocaust Museum, Ford’s Theatre and the National Cathedral.

Many memorials were visited during the tour including the Pentagon, 9/11, Vietnam, Korean, Iwo Jima Marine, World War II, FDR, Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington Memorials.

The group was able to witness the President’s helicopter land at the White House as well as see the First Family arrive at the White House; the security proceedings for this event were amazing.

Students making the trip were Ashtyn Aune, Lexi Hopkins, Abby McGregor, Nick Fleming, Austin Ledbetter, Tyler Kincaid, Brett Kincaid, Caleb Berquist, Madison Harder, Darcy Stamper, Keith Zimmer, Wyatt Weller, Britte Harder, Gail Harder, Sam Harder, Cole Evans, Jason Wigen, Lura Potter, Jazlynn Webb, Brittany Gordon, Douglas McKeen and Christopher Koenig.

Chaperones on the trip were coordinator RaeAnn Fleming, Kim Berquist, Julie Kincaid, Donna Wigen, Dionne Evans, Rachelle Ledbetter, Trish Harder, Tabitha Harder and Stacy Aune.

The DC kids and their parents appreciate all those who supported their various fund raising efforts and making the trip possible for so many.

LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club will meet next Wednesday, July 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the school library. At this meeting members will complete Palouse Empire registrations for their animal projects.
