Deadline set for July 29 crop SURE insurance program

Whitman County farmers and ranchers have until July 29 to apply for crop disaster insurance under the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Programs, or SURE. The program provides payments to producers on farms that incurred crop production or quality losses.

To be eligible, producers must have suffered at least a 10 percent production loss on a crop of economic significance and be covered under federal crop insurance.

Disaster payments are limited to $100,000 per person and legal entity. Producers whose non-farm income exceeds $500,000 are not eligible.

To sign up, or for more information, growers are urged to contact the Whitman County office of the Farm Service Agency in Colfax.
