Oscar Broeckel was the honored guest at two celebrations of his 89th birthday. Saturday, Tom and Doreen Riedner, Genesee; Tony and Denise Kendall, Tacoma; Karen Broeckel, Dusty, and Oscar enjoyed dinner at the Fireside Restaurant in Pullman. The Kendalls spent the weekend with her father. Monday evening, Doreen Riedner hosted a birthday dinner at the honoree’s home attended by Brian and Angela Broeckel, Sami BeDell and Karen Broeckel.
Fran Jones returned from a trip to her hometown in Saskatchewan recently where she attended a family reunion. There were 100 family members present, many of whom she became acquainted with for the first time. She reported a beautiful sight of a “bright sea of yellow” as she flew out of Edmonton where the canola was in bloom from horizon to horizon.
Kathleen Scholz, oldest Dusty resident at 101, has returned from Whitman Health and Rehab Center this week after also spending a short time in the Whitman Hospital and Medical Center. She has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She will be at home and visitors are welcome to come see her.
Kathy Vogler returned Sunday from a four day road trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival held in Ashland with Val Moffitt, Pasco. The women attended three productions and several classes. Enroute, they made a side trip to a quilting store in Sisters and stopped at every vehicle turn-out around Crater Lake, fabric store, gallery and numerous shoe stores. They also renewed their acquaintances with the outlet malls.
Linda Hennigar and Di Brink were among 15 women who attended a farewell luncheon honoring Marion Bay at Banyon’s Restaurant Saturday.
Cross Country musical group entertained the clientele at the Whitman Nursing Home Saturday afternoon. Ruth Martin is currently residing at the rehab center and will welcome visitors.
Bill and Laurie Scaggs Pitt, Las Vegas, and Laurie’s mother Lorraine Scaggs, Colfax, attended worship services at Country Bible Church and visited with relatives and friends Sunday. Bill and Laurie are spending two weeks with her mother.
