Stelzers celebrate 50th anniversary

John and Mary Kaye Stelzer celebrated their 50th anniversary in July by taking a road trip in Oregon with their daughter, Coral Anne, son-in-law Frank and granddaughter Linnae Roeder.

Stelzer and Mary Kaye Mortimer were married Sept. 2, 1961, in the Methodist Church in St. John. Cousin of the groom, Gene Ross, performed the ceremony.

John was employed on the farm of L.J. Kile. In 1963, they moved to the farm homesteaded by Mary Kaye’s great-grandmother and lived a mile off of Thorn Creek for seven years.

In 1965 John was drafted into the army and served in Vietnam. After his discharge from the service, they farmed west of St. John where John was raised.

They moved in 1970 to their farm north of Pine City where they have made their home for 40 years.

They are members of the Malden Church. Mary Kaye belongs to the Malden Church Ladies Working Band, John was the leader for the Pine City 4H Club for 15 years and belongs to the Palouse Country Cowboy Poetry Association. They both enjoy semi-retired farming.
