DUI emphasis underway

Extra officers will patrol for drunk drivers Aug. 19-Sept. 5 as part of a this year’ s “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” campaign. Last year, during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 21 motorists for driving under the influence. In 2010, DUI arrests totaled 334 in the county, according to a report by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission.

Whitman County deputies, Washington State Patrol Troopers and WSU police will join in the campaign which starts Friday.
