This past weekend was the annual Penawawa reunion at Warm Springs Ranch on the Snake River with Shirley Eggers as hostess. Shirley arrived at the orchard with her daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Patsy Kromm of George, Thursday. Some of the attendees stayed for Saturday’s potluck and others stayed for several days.

Attending were Terry and Janet Eggers, Sandpoint, and friend Terry Anderson, Kentucky; Madge Griner, Dean and Sandee Griner, David and Leslie and daughters Heather and Emily, Spokane; Willy and Anne Lowe, Endicott; Jon and Li Ochs, Dusty; Kevin and Jenny Bell and Kyle, and friend Travis, Yakima; Connie Horton, Dusty; Sue Kromm, Colfax; Barbara Morgan McAvoy and Betty Morgan Culbertson, Walla Walla; Sharon and Monte Steiger, Genesee; Jerry Smith and grandson Jordon, Portland; and Dorothy Ann Mader, Lewiston.

A party to celebrate the 95th birthday of Altona Wigen was Aug. 5 at her residence at Nelson’s Corner in Colfax. Attending the event were her daughter Linda Wigen, Dusty; granddaughter and great-grandson, Tami and Wesley Banks, Kennewick; sister and brother-in-law Dagmar and Marv Kirking, Sandpoint; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Berniece Wigen, Rockford; and nieces and nephew Goldie and Al Foss, Dusty; Gracia Stueckle, Seattle and Elaine Hogan, Richland.

Saturday, Aug. 6, Linda Hennigar attended a bridal shower brunch at the Selbu Lutheran Church for Danielle Olsem, bride-elect of Ryan Dorman, son of Bob and Connie Dorman of LaCrosse. Hostesses for the event were Judy Aune, Peggy Bryan, Arlene Gordon, Perri Koller, Sharon Schlomer and Lynn Wargo. That evening, Hennigar attended a surprise milestone birthday party for Wes Hennigar at the honoree’s home near Colfax.

Tuesday, Don Steiger, Menlo Park, Calif., and his son Craig and Craig’s daughter Cameron dropped in to visit Duane and Stetson Steiger also at the Oscar Broeckel home. They were at the Broeckel home during harvest lunch time so they were able to visit with Oscar, Brian Broeckel, Doreen Riedner, Denise Kendall, Graham BeDell and Karen Broeckel. Later in the day, the Steigers stopped at the Edward Jones office in Colfax to visit with Tarri Steiger.

Tarri Steiger spent the weekend in Seattle for the wedding reception for her niece. Steiger helped with the decorations, food, etc. She stayed with her daughter Geraldine.

Linda Hennigar spent Friday and Saturday in Kennewick at the home of her daughter’s family, Tami, Jay and Wesley Banks. She sewed 20 sheep blankets for grandson Wesley’s fellow members of his 4H club, the Block Busters, for their entries in the Benton-Franklin County Fair this week.

David and Phyllis Stueckle and Colene Sager attended memorial services for Eddie Thompson Saturday at the LaCrosse City Park.

Sunday, a farewell party was given for Pastor and Mrs. Bay at the LaCrosse Park. The Bays plan to eventually retire to the west side of the state. Attending from the Dusty area were Diane Monson, David and Phyllis Stueckle, Larry and Di Brink, Art and Colene Sager and Linda Hennigar. Kirk Wigen was M.C. for the program presented during the afternoon. Members of the community shared memories of the Bay’s years in the LaCrosse area. Ashtyn Aune and Linda Hennigar each sang songs. All of the Bay children were in attendance, Rebekah from California, Joshua from Seattle, Deborah Pringle from Shoreline and Amy Retig from McClure, Ohio.
