The Washington Association of School Administrators has elected Dr. Paul Sturm, Superintendent of Pullman School District, as president-elect for 2011-12.
Sturm will assume the presidency in July 2012, following the term of the current president, Joel Aune, former Colfax superintendent who now heads the Snoqualmie Valley School District.
Sturm has been an active member of WASA and has served in a variety of association positions, including president of WASA’s Northeast Region 101 during 2009-10.
“I feel a huge sense of privilege and am honored to be elected to this position,” said Dr. Sturm. “The members of WASA are a special group of dedicated, creative and caring professionals seeking to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.”
Dr. Sturm started his career in 1982 as a high school math and science teacher in the Central Valley School District. He became an assistant principal in Central Valley in 1990 and then principal in 1994. From there, his career took him to Pullman in 2002 where he became an assistant superintendent. He has been superintendent at Pullman since 2006.
He received his doctorate in Educational Leadership from WSU in 2009.
