Colfax District student count up, but gains could decline

As the doors open on a brand-new school year in Colfax, the initial student numbers are up.

Counting pre-registration and first registrations for the year, the district estimates a net gain of 20 students over last year. The official number, which Supt. Michael Morgan expects will change significantly, will be out Friday.

“ If we really have 20 (new students) on Friday that will be a major surprise,” said Morgan. “I’d expect six or seven.”

Colfax, on the first day, had 311 students in the first six grades and 329 in the next six grades.
