Garfield's Leinweber begins retirement after 27 years

After 27 years, it was more than she expected.

Mickey Leinweber retired this summer as a teacher at Garfield Elementary. She waited until late into June to turn in her resignation.

Her career included 17 years as a first grade teacher, seven years as a kindergarten-first teacher and three years as a reading teacher.

“It was a hard decision,” she said. “Harder than I ever thought it would be. But I just decided to let younger blood in there.”

She started to consider retiring in the late spring; but the next morning she walked into her classroom and had second thoughts.
