Carrothers garden wins season award

Rosalia News

With the slow start to a good growing season, Rosalia Garden Club voted to select only one “Garden of the Month” for 2011, so the garden selected this year is the “Garden of the Season.”

Four nominations were received for outstanding seasonal gardens.

Jane Carrothers and family members received the winning honor August 31.

The selection team chose this outstanding garden because of the meritorious appearance.

Not only was it colorful and showed some pre-planning in the selection of plants, it was groomed to perfection.

Jane explained her three children, Tom, Stacey and Shannon, requested they plant an overall color theme using the Rosalia Spartan colors of orange and black.

The black was unattainable so they settled on orange pansies and white petunias as a dominant color.

The white petunias were extremely striking and fresh for late August and the walkways were edged to perfection.

Next to the house are some blue lobelia.

Several yard ornaments blended into the landscape. A hobby of collecting pig ornaments had spilled over from the interior of the house to the outside and the pink pigs made visitors to the garden smile and feel welcome. Garden Club members were extremely delighted to learn how much the three children were involved in the planning and caring of this lovely colorful garden. It was a pleasure to award them this honor.

The Garden of the Month Sign will remain in the Carrothers Garden until the area experiences a killing frost. For information on Rosalia Garden Club activities, contact Co-President Kathy Hilliard.

Rosalia Post Office is getting a new asphalt parking area. The heaving and broken asphalt over the past few years has made it hard to maneuver for postal delivery and customer vehicles. With this improvement, the flow of traffic will be change to one way.
