Obituaries 9/15/11

William L. Weeks

A memorial service for William L. Weeks, 87, resident of Palouse for 58 years, was Saturday, Sept. 10, at 3 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse. The Rev. Corey Laughary officiated, and the Potlatch VFW Post and a United States Navy honor guard participated. Inurnment followed at the Greenwood Cemetery, Palouse. Mr. Weeks died early last Wednesday morning, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Born on Dec. 10, 1923, at Adel, Ga., to John and Hattie Harris Weeks, he attended schools in Adel, Ga., and started high school in Sparks, Ga. He had to leave school and take care of the family farm following his father’s death.

He later attended a welding school and then joined the United States Navy Feb. 6, 1943, serving in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was discharged as a mailman 2nd class Jan. 27, 1946.

Bill married Eleanor Renner Dec. 4, 1946, at Los Angeles. The couple moved to Spokane where Bill worked for the postal service for two years. They later moved to Georgia where he sold insurance and worked for Studebaker.

In 1953, they moved to Palouse, and worked for Studebaker in Moscow and later for Potlatch Forests, Inc., at Potlatch for 29 years. Bill also worked at the Palouse High School as a custodian for five years when he retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, Potlatch Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, Aries 2 Eagles, Spokane.

Survivors include his wife Eleanor Weeks, Palouse; two sons, Larry (Jeanne) Weeks, Indianola, and William L. (Teresa) Weeks, Phoenix, Ariz .; one daughter, Dianne Schwehr, Whidbey Island; one brother, Leon Weeks, Sparks, Ga .; one sister, Laris Brown, Adel, Ga .; eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. A son, Gary Weeks, preceded him in death.

Memorials may be given to the Palouse Community Center, Box 23, Palouse.

Ronald Olsen

A memorial service for Ronald Carl Olsen, 70, Pasco native who served on the faculty of the WSU veterinary school, will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Riverview Methodist Church in Pasco. He died Aug. 17, 2011, at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Seattle.

A member of the 1959 class at Pasco High, he earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at Pullman and served in the US Army where he was a community action advisor in Vietnam. After receiving his discharge, he started a large animal practice in Smithers, B.C. He later returned to Pullman to teach, and then returned to private practice in Moses Lake. His active career was abruptly ended by a bull.

Surviving are his mother, Lucille; three brother; five children, and two grandsons.

Edgar A. Anderson

A graveside inurnment service for Edgar A. Anderson, 92, retired Garfield area farmer, was Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Garfield Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Nelson officiating. Mr. Anderson died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at the LaDow Court Assisted Living Center in Garfield.

Mr. Anderson moved to the LaDow Court in April of 2009.

Born April 29, 1919, at Cora, Idaho, to Martin and Mattie Parkinson Anderson, he attended the Garfield Schools and graduated from the Garfield High School in 1937. He worked on the family farm near Garfield all his life. He never married.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and caring for his fruit trees. He also repaired televisons and radios for several years.

Survivors include one brother, Donald Anderson, Lewiston, and one sister, Helen Byrne, Garfield.
