Three county eight man teams booked wins in the second round of pre-league action last Friday. The three clubs have another pre-league round booked this Friday with Colton, now 2-0, hosting Joseph, Ore., in the revamped Kibbie Dome; LaCrosse/Washtucna, also 2-0, rolling to Odessa, and Garfield/Palouse, now 1-0, traveling all the way to Coulee City to play Almira/Coulee/Hartline.
St. John/Endicott will mark a second week out of varsity competition.
LaCROSSE/WASHTUCNA will hit the road again after a 42-14 win over Kootenai at Harrison Flats last Friday to move their record to 2-0. After pegging a 16-8 lead at the half, the Tigercats stacked four TDs in the second half for the big win.
“We just got our act together,” Coach Jeff Nelson said.
Sawyer Hostetler booked 185 yards on 16 carries and scored five times. QB Jake Aune hit 21-217 for 309 yards. He hit Matt Stubbs on a 31-yarder for a score.
Stubbs had a 6-97 night receiving. Other receivers were Sam Harder, 6-80, Hostetler 5-67, Austin Summers 6-65, and Taylor Martin 1-30.
Junior linebacker Johnathan Holdren, playing in his first game, topped the defense with 11 tackles.
Odessa/Harrington will host the Tigercats after sustaining a 48-52 loss to Cusick, a team which appears to be on another power run in the NE Eights.
Coach Nelson said the Tigercats will be facing a balanced Titan team when they make the trip to Odessa for a game which will be part of Odessa’s Deutches Fest. QB Jared King keys the Titan offense.
COLTON and the Salmon River Savages battled back and forth Friday at Riggins with the Wildcats taking a 30-22 lead at the half after scoring three times in the second quarter.
Each team added one TD in the second half.
QB Josh Straughan hit 24 for 29 for 266 yards at Riggins. He hit six different receivers in the air attack. Jake Straughan gathered in the first TD pass on a 10 yarder in the first quarter before the Savages scored twice to take the lead.
Salmon moved 260-pound Ethan Couie into the backfield in an I-back formation and attempted a power game against the Wildcats’ air attack.
“I think our defense did a good job of stopping them,” Coach Clark Vining said.
Jake Riedner topped the Colton D with 13 tackles. Logan Hudson had 12, and Matt Becker 11.
Colton and Joseph will play in the dome Friday for the third straight year. Joseph will arrive with a 1-1 record after topping Ione, Ore., last week.
GARFIELD/PALOUSE will roll to Coulee City to play an ACH team which moved their mark to 2-0 last Friday with a 46-44 enduro win over their Liberty Christian host Friday. ACH had a 38-16 lead at the half before the Pats came back to score 28 beans in the last two quarters.
The Warriors are led by Derek Isaak who scored four rushing TDs against the Patriots.
The Vikings, who took a bye on the first week of action, blanked Selkirk 44-0 last week in their opener at Palouse. The game was shut down under the 40-point rule.
Riley Hodges scored the first three TDs on runs of 6, 23, and 16 yards. Hodges finished with 138 yards over the two quarters.
Kevin Knauff broke lose on a 58-yard scoring run, and Hodges followed with a 63-yarder, all in the first quarter.
