Nighthawks, Eagles flash V-net power 9/15/11

Tekoa/Oakesdale bagged a second league win, and a young SJE team topped a tourney at Walla Walla to set the pace for the SE 1B volleyball campaign this week.

TEKOA/OAKESDALE defeated the GP Vikings at Palouse in four games, 25-12 25-14 124-26 and 25-8. Cassie Mendoza hit 18 kills in the match, and Kaela Dewan put up 35 assists. Eden Anderson had six blocks.

Cassie Thompson had 11 kills and 2 blocks for the Vikings, and Holly Leendertsen put up 16 assists.

Chandler Pfaff and Kaycie Adair each hit three aces.

The Nighthawks Thursday defeated St. John/Endicott in three straight 25-11 25-12 25-22 with Mendoza hitting 14 kills and Dewan putting up 20 assists. Katelyn Renstrom had four kills.

Gretchen Van Lith had three kills and 10 digs for the Eagles.

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT Tuesday defeated Touchet in four games on the Eagles court 25-20 25-19 24-26 and 25-17.

Gretchen Van Lith and Sierra McCanna each hit five aces against the chiefs, and VanLith finished with 16 kills. Morgan Anderson had 12 assists, Shania Bailey 54 digs, 47 assists.

Saturday at Walla Walla, the Eagles won a six-team tournament with a three-game revenge win over DeSales in the title game, 25-19 21-25 and 15-11.

The Eagles advanced to the final match after a three-gamer over LaCrosse/Washtucna 24-26 25-15 and 15-8, and a semi round win over Touchet 25-20 and 25-13.

DeSales dropped the Eagles 26-24 and 25-20 in the first pool play, but SJE bounced back to top the Walla Walla High jayvees 25-23 25-10 for get the number-two bracket out of pool play.

Stats for the tourney title run Saturday included Van Lith 72 digs, 12 acres and 46 kills; Emily Jones, 67 digs, 16 aces, 28 kills; Sami Bailey, 45 digs, 47 assists; Shania Bailey 54 ditgs, 3 aces; Sierra McCanna 15 digs, 46 assists, and Rachel Gfeller, 6 blocks, 5 aces, 6 kills.

COLTON Tuesday opened its league run with a three-game win over the LW Tigercats on its home court. The line score was 25-3 25-12 and 25-21.

Paige Vincent booked eight kills and hit five aces. Jenna Moser hit seven kills, and Haley Moser put up 17 assists.

The Wildcats will play at Touchet today.

POMEROY opened their league run with a four-game win on their home court over Rosalia, 25-19 22-25 25-19 and 25-5. Haylee Koller tapped 29 assists for the Pirates and Delaney Monahan hit nine kills.

Briann Maley had 7 blocks and 10 kills for the Spartans, Kristin Paulson 11 digs, and McKenzie Reddish hit two aces.

The Pirates opened league play with Kinseh Bott, a two-time all leaguer, on the sidelines for the season with an ACL injury sustained in a scrimmage. Bott will be out for the season with an aim of getting back in action for the winter’s basketball campaign.

The loss at Pomeroy left the Sparts 1-1 in league play after they put down Touchet in three games at Rosalia last Wednesday, 25-22 25-27 and 25-20.

Maley hit six kills and three blocks against the chiefs, and Paulson had 10 digs. Maddy St. John had 7 assists.
