LaCrosse 4H members Dustin Broeckel and Gunnar Aune along with their parents, Jen Broeckel and Leonard Aune, donated their time and efforts Saturday at Pheasant Valley Preserve to help get the ranch ready for the winter months. Pheasant Valley is owned and operated by Jerry Townsend who was severely injured in a four-wheeler accident. He remains in Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.

A benefit fund has been set up for Townsend at Columbia Bank. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

The Halloween costume contest sponsored by Jasper Trucking was a huge success with several children participating. The judges had a difficult time picking winners but finally chose Gracie Schwartz as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz as winner in the 0-2 age group. In the 3-5 age group Ty Pierson as Woody was the top pick. The first place choice in the among the 6-8 year olds was Wyatt Schwartz as the Tin Man.

Logan Stanley dressed as Daphne from Scooby Doo topped the 9-11 year olds and Norma Gibson took the honors in the adult group dressed as a Panda. The chili feed had an excellent turnout before everyone headed to the fire hall for the carnival. The fall sports awards dessert will be Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Washtucna multi-purpose room.

LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H club will celebrate the 4H year with their achievement night dinner and awards Sunday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. at the LaCrosse School Cafeteria. Members will be honored for their 4H achievement in projects over the past year and new officers will take their posts.

New officers for the 2011-12 4H year for the LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club are Ashtyn Aune, president; Cole Evans, vice president; Brett Kincaid, secretary; Caleb Berquist, treasurer; Abby McGregor, reporter, and Sydney Berquist, historian. They were elected at the October meeting.

The club also gained 11 new members, and it isn’t too late for others to join 4H this year. Enrollment is open until January.
