Debbie Glass was approved as CEO in the October meeting of the hospital board and will start in the first week of December.
She arrives here From Newberg, Ore. where she was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer for Providence Newberg Medical Center for five years. She was also interim chief executive in 2009. From 2008 to 2010, Glass served as interim regional chief nursing officer for Providence.
All told, she brings 25 years of health care leadership to her new position.
“We’re very excited about her coming,” said Whitman Hospital board chairman John Perry. “She’s got a ton of experience as a COO and knows her way around being a CEO. She’s a high-energy person and well-prepared. I think she’s going to be a very good CEO for Whitman Hospital.”
Before joining Providence, Glass was vice president of patient care at Salem Hospital. A registered nurse, she began her career with a B.A. in nursing and a Masters in Community Health Care Systems from Oregon Health Sciences University.
Glass will take over from interim chief Tim Corley, who has acted as chief executive at Whitman Hospital since the resignation of David Womack in May.
Three candidates were in contention for the open position. Glass and the two others interviewed with the administration team and department managers. She talked with staff doctors and had dinner with the board.
Glass has two children, one a student at Oregon Institute of Technology and another a student at Portland State.
