Tekoa Churches plan
Thanksgiving service
For the 36th year, Tekoa churches will host a joint Thanksgiving service, bringing people together to give thanks and to pray for community needs.
The event will be Sunday, Nov. 20, at Sacred Heart Church in Tekoa at 7 p.m. The service follows a format in what has become a tradition in these 36 years with scripture readings, songs by church youth groups, other music by those present, a Friendship Circle when those present offer petitions about community needs and a communal singing of the Our Father to end the service.
Pastor Hal Whitman will present a message during the service. Afterwards everyone is invited to the parish center next door to enjoy refreshments and fellowship.
The offering that is taken during the service begins the fund-raising drive for the Tekoa Christmas Fund. The money collected for the fund is used to provide grocery store vouchers for low-income families in the Tekoa area who have been identified through Community Action Center in Whitman County.
Donations to the fund can be made at AmericanWest Bank in Tekoa and can also be mailed to Kathy Smith, Box 509, Tekoa, 99033. Deadline to give donations is Dec. 15. Last year, the money raised helped nearly 100 people have groceries for Christmas.
