Vikings, ‘hawks launch hoops
High school hoops season got off to a rough start for Whitman County schools as Tekoa/Oakesdale and Garfield/Palouse boys dropped their home openers against non-league opponents.
Nighthawk girls took a win, 54-42 over Dayton after posting a 10-point lead at the half with Alexandra Overton hitting 12 points.
Nighthawk Max Mueller canned 16 points and Marcus Pluff 12, but Tekoa/Oakesdale fell 44-58 to Dayton in their season opener Tuesday at Tekoa.
The Bulldogs were led by Justin Turner’s 18 points. Colton Bickelhaupt added 14.
