City budget on agenda

The 2012 Colfax City Budget was approved at Monday night’s Colfax city council session. The budget total of $3,213,427 is approximately $180,140 more than the current year budget with most of the increases expected in capital expense spending items.

At one point in the budget preparation this fall, the city spending plan was about $40,000 more than expected revenue. Most of that gap was filled by eliminating a $30,000 transfer from the general fund into the information technology fund for computer improvements and upgrades. The $30,000 will remain in the general fund to fill the revenue gap.

Some information technology funds are also derived from transfers from water and sewer department revenues.

Big ticket spending items on the budget for next year is a projected $110,000 to pump out sewer lagoon deposits and $22,000 for roofing projects for the water department buildings on Clay Street. The street department plans to purchase a used grader to replace the 1970 model which has been on line for 42 years.
