Serving Whitman County since 1877
Left, six Colfax Boy Scouts, adult leaders and helpers Saturday moved approximately 1,800 pounds of food from the former FISH food bank at St. Patrick's parish hall to the basement of the DSHS building on Main Street. Food bank volunteers assisted in the move.
At right, stocked shelves of the new Colfax Food Bank.
The move followed a decision to merge the FISH food bank and the Council on Aging food operations into a single operation known as the Colfax Food Bank.
The food bank during November received a total of 37,000 pounds of food donations from around the county. That includes 620 full family holiday meals which were donated through the Tom's Turkey program. Food bag donation programs from Safeway in Pullman and Rosauers in Colfax and the Boy Scout food drive contributed to the November total, according to Scott Hallett of the Council on Aging.
Saturday's Palouse Cares drive in Colfax resulted in about 1,200 pounds in food donations and $1,100 in cash which will go onto the December totals for donations.
Pantry day at the food bank is on the second Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. Commodity distribution this month will be Dec. 23.
