Light standards go up

Standards for the new streetlights on Mill Street were installed by Harrison Electric crews the first part of last week, but the project has been delayed again until the actual light fixtures arrive. Munir Daud, Pullman consulting engineer for the project, said the light fixtures have yet to be shipped by the California supplier.

Daud said the new lights, when installed, will be fitted with L.E.D. lights which last longer and require less power. One of the L.E.D. lights has been tried out on one of the fixtures which was installed as part of N. Mill Street project.

Daud noted he is also recommending the L.E.D. lights for Palouse which has shut down about half of their street lights as a budget measure.

Installation of the streetlights at Colfax is one of the few remaining items to be finished on the S. Mill project which has been officially suspended for the winter season. The S. Mill area is still served by the old streetlights which will remain in service until the new lights go on line.
