Bulldogs out-battle Reardan; Crusader visit to follow break

Colfax boys wrapped up a pre-Christmas run with a 6-0 mark Tuesday after out-lasting tough Reardan team for a 61-53 win on the home court. The Bulldogs took the Reardan win after pegging a 47-41 win over the LRS Broncos at Lind Saturday night and a 62-47 crunch of Kettle Falls at Colfax last Friday.

The Colfax gym will now be quiet until after the Christmas break when Northwest Christian will bring their undefeated team into town for a showdown of the league leaders.

Colfax next Thursday will return to Yakima for the SunDome shootout.

Tuesday against Reardan, Brandon Gfeller, who was hampered by an ankle injury, topped the Bulldogs with 22 points. The junior guard hit three 3-point shots and was 5-6 at the toss line.

Senior Justin Berarducci, who had to sit down early with five fouls, finished with 17 points.

Colfax powered to a seven-point lead after the first quarter and had a 31-25 edge at the half. Reardan closed the gap in the third quarter.

Johnny Kieffer, Reardan’s football standout, led their hoop visit with 13 points.

Saturday at Ritzville, Colfax put the Broncos in a 16-point hole just before the break and still led 24-11 at halfttime. LRS came back with a solid third quarter and then picked up another six points before Colfax departed with a 47-41 win to extend the string to 5-0.

Coach Reece Jenkin said after the game the Bulldogs need to work on finishing games. The power just seemed to fade in the second half.

Gfeller hit 13 at Ritzville and Jay Hart and Berarducci each hit 12. He led Colfax rebounds with 12.

Jake Dewald hit 12 to lead the Broncos.

Friday at Colfax, the Bulldogs roared past Kettle Falls in a runaway game. One feature for Colfax was scoring from all players when Jenkin went to the bench early against the struggling Kettle team.
