A one-percent increase in property tax revenue was part of the budget approved Tuesday morning by Whitman County commissioners. The county opted to add the one percent increase in tax revenue which is allowed in the state.
The one percent gain in tax revenue for the county comes out to a one cent hike in the general county levy; from $1.50 per $1,000 to $1.51.
“We need the money to pay the bills. Gary needs the money to balance the budget,” Assessor Joe Reynolds told commissioners in recommending they increase property tax revenue by one percent.
