Serving Whitman County since 1877
Palouse and Lewiston-Clarkston Valley-area food banks are the recipients of grants as part of Avista’s year-end donation program. A total of $25,010 is being donated to food banks in Washington, Idaho and Oregon by Avista and Avista Foundation.
Recipients are: Community Action Center, Pullman; Sojourner’s Alliance, Moscow; and Asotin County Food Bank, Clarkston, WA. In addition, a grant was made to the Lewiston Communtiy Action Partnership, which will administer grants to food banks in Community Action Partnerships in Koootenai, Benewah, Shoshone, Boundary, Bonner, Clearwater, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce and Asotin counties. Funding for these grants comes from foundation funds and company profits. It is not included as a cost to customers in developing retail rates.
“Community food banks are providing vital safety-net services in the communities we serve. Through their buying power and relationships with food producers, the food banks are able to leverage donations like ours to bring several times their value to help stock the shelves for those in need,” said Paul Kimmel, Avista’s Palouse-area regional business manager.
