Serving Whitman County since 1877

Library board delays meet for applications

The Whitman County Library Board of Trustees meeting set for January 17 has been postponed until January 24 at 4 p.m. in the Colfax Library. This meeting is open to the public and the community is welcome to attend. Among meeting topics, trustees hope to be interviewing prospective candidates for their open board position.

The library board will interview prospective candidates and make a recommendation to the county commissioners who appoint an individual to serve a term of five years. Library trustees must live within the library district. They are not paid, although a travel reimbursement is available.

The five-member board of trustees is responsible for governance of Whitman County Rural Library District, which covers all of Whitman County except areas within the Pullman and Lamont city limits.

The district is composed of 14 branch libraries and nearly 40 employees, most being part-time.

Residents from the Rosalia, Tekoa, Oakesdale, Farmington, Garfield or surrounding areas who are interested in applying for the library board are encouraged to send a letter of interest, resume or other pertinent information by Jan. 15. The board seeks applicants from that area because it is not presently represented on the board.

Resumes can be sent to The Board of Trustees, Whitman County Library, 102 S. Main Street, Colfax, 99111. Contact Kristie Kirkpatrick, library’s director, for additional information.
