After booking a split last week in Yakima’s SunDome shootout, Colfax girls Tuesday bumped their league string to 4-1 with a 50-42 win over Davenport Tuesday on the Gorillas’ home court. The league win bumped the Colfax season mark back over the .500 mark at 5 -4.
Now 4-1 in league play, the Bulldogs Friday will host Northwest Christian, a team which remains in second place behind Reardan before the holiday break. A win by the Bulldogs will give them the number-two shot in the league as it nears the halfway mark.
Northwest Christian moved their league NE record to 5-1 in the Tuesday round with a 41-19 decision over Springdale. Hannah Dietzen led the Crusaders with 21.
Tuesday at Reardan a two-game freeze on the Bulldogs shooting began to thaw when they moved out to a 31-21 lead over the Gorillas in the first half. Colfax shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the first half, a solid thaw over the marks they hit at the SunDome.
Hannah Harazin and Taylor Larsen each hit 12 to lead the Bulldogs. Harazin pulled down eight rebounds and Larsen had seven.
Coach Corey Baerlocher gave his team extra-high credits for tough defense in the two rounds at the SunDome last Thursday and Friday during the Christmas break. The Bulldog girls needed every ounce of defense because their offense was terrible.
“We just couldn’t hit any buckets.I don’t know if it was a case of dome vision or something else,” he noted.
The Bulldogs bowed to Granger 39-36 in their first game after a comeback campaign. In the second day, the offense gained a little more traction and the defense remained strong for a 37-29 win over Woodland, a double A school from the Vancouver area.
In the first game Granger went out to an 11-point lead with Colfax hitting just four of 32 shots in the first half. The Bulldogs closed the gap and cracked a lead with 1:40 left, but the win went out the window with two fouls and a turnover.
E.B. Hatley booked 11 boards to Colfax and Tayler Larsen had 10. The Bulldogs had a 52-37 led off the boards.
The Bulldogs finished with just 10 buckets from the fieldn and shot under .500, 12 for 28, at the toss line.
Colfax shooting inched up in the Friday night round when they hit close to 20 percent of their shots against Woodland. They hit just under 15 percent in the first half and 25 percent the second half.
However, the shots made from the floor totaled a lean 9.
Hannah Harazin led Colfax in scoring both nights with 15 against Granger and 13 against Woodland.
Woodland pegged a lead after the first quarter and had a 19-11 lead at the break. The Bulldogs came back with two strong quarters to take the win.
Reardan hammered St. George’s 71-22 and the LRS Broncos dropped Liberty 45-20 in other Tuesday league rounds.
