The dedication

Palouse Community Center board president Scott Beeson speaks at the building’s dedication Saturday morning, Jan. 14.

“It is our new Palouse Community Center and we are very proud,” said board vice president Corey Laughary in dedicating the building.

“This will be our new home for, who knows, the next 100 years?” Mayor Michael Echanove also spoke, noting the costs and effort which went into the project: “We did this without one tax dollar.” The grand opening lasted throughout the day, culminating in music and dancing to the music of Blue Highway.

Paradise Creek Brewery donated beer which was sold to benefit the center.

The 3,900 square-foot building cost $530,000.

It’s operating costs will be funded by Needful Things, a second-hand store in the lobby.

A $150,000 loan remains to be paid off.
