Colton defense keeps up pressure; Spartans, Nighthawks each add 2

Colton’s defense kept the gate shut over another league weekend to extend their domination of SE 1B hoops. The Wildcats picked up dominating wins at Palouse Friday night and at home against Pomeroy Saturday.

The Wildcats also added another win Tuesday over another Idaho power team, Kamiah. Score for the non-leaguer at Colton was 75-36.

Rosalia remained in the hunt with two wins, a big edge at LaCrosse Friday and a cruncher over Touchet on the Spartan court Saturday.

Tekoa/Oakesdale girls also cranked two league wins over the weekend and made a move up the standings to third place. The ‘hawks posted a strong 65-26 win over Touchet in the Friday round and then rolled to St. John where they topped the Eagles 59-47.

Garfield/Palouse, a victim of the Wildcats at Palouse in the Friday round, defeated the Tigercats at LaCrosse for a split over the weekend.

Colton’s defenders actually posted a 33-2 halftime score at Palouse in the Friday round after shutting out the Vikings in the second quarter. Paige Vincent led the Colton offense with 17 points.

On the home court Saturday, the Wildcats held Pomeroy to two points in the first quarter while staking a 22-point lead. They finished with a 76-12 win.

Tekoa/Oakesdale’s Alexa Lindgren hit 14 in the Saturday round at St. John to lead a 59-47 win over the Eagles. SJE posted a 28-22 lead in the first half on their home court, but the Nighthawks began to hit the bombs in the third quarter and took control. Mattie Jo Johnson hit 12 for the `hawks to lead the inside tame.

Viking girls shook off the Colton shutdown and topped LW 44-22 at LaCrosse with Kaycie Adair hitting 15 and Taylor Redman hitting 14.

At Rosalia, Mackenzie Reddish dropped 20 points for the Spartans in the 67-29 win over Touchet. The Spartans will host Pomeroy Friday and then face a north-end test when they travel to Tekoa Saturday to face the Nighthawks.
