GP sinks TO in OT

Snowed out Friday, Garfield/Palouse and Tekoa/Oakesdale made up their SR 27 rivalry game Tuesday night with the Vikings leaving Oakesdale with a 51-44 overtime win.

The teams went back and forth throughout regulation, but GP, riding Tyson Lowley, heated up in the extra session. Lowley finished with 14 points, and Jesse Lopez and Nathan Cocking each posted 11 for the Vikes.

Nighthawk big man Max Mueller added to his hot scoring streak with 28 points, more than half the ‘hawk total. Joe Gaines added 10 for the hosts.

Saturday night Mueller squared off in an individual scoring battle against Rosalia’s Craig Nelson . with Nelson and the Spartans leaving the Tekoa gym on a 59-53 win. The two big scorers matched off throughout the night. Nelson finished with a game-high 27, one above Mueller’s 26.

Nine Spartans found the net. Marcus Pluff canned 14 for TO.

Rosalia’s Saturday game at Pomeroy was postponed by snow and will be made up later.

League-leader Colton had its weekend schedule whited out by the snowstorms. The Wildcats had scheduled a road game at LaCrosse/Washtucna Friday and a homer with Touchet Saturday. The LW match was set to be played after press time Wednesday.

Snow may have helped the ‘cats Tuesday night, as they dropped a non-leaguer with visiting Kamiah 53-61. Down seven at the break, Colton put up a storm of its own in the third quarter, rallying to grab a one-point lead.

The Kubs responded with a 18-9 advantage in the fourth to grab the final margin.

Colton’s potent attack was limited, with the Straughan brother backcourt of Josh and Jake held to a combined 15 points. Center Dustin Patchen, the only Wildcat to break double figures, led scoring with 26 points. Jack Nygaard led the Kubs with 20.

Pomeroy used a big third quarter to wipe out a seven-point halftime deficit to LaCrosse/Washtucna and put up a 57-42 home win Saturday.

The Pirates, powered by Mitch Ruchert’s 15 points, put up a 21-6 score in the third frame to seize control of the game. Jed Zimmer put up 15 to pace the Tigercats.

Pomeroy lost a 60-58 non-league buzzer-beater at Asotin Tuesday night.

St. John/Endicott was set make up Friday’s snowed-out road game at Touchet after press time Wednesday. The Eagles also lost Saturday’s game at Gar/Pal to the snow. That game has yet to be re-scheduled.
