Colton's perfect Wildcats headed for trophy barn

Colton’s undefeated, and seldom challenged, girls team looks like they will be unstoppable over the next two weeks as the SE -1B league’ s top six qualifiers head into the two-week district run.

Rosalia, which sustained their lone two league losses to the Wildcats, looks like heavy favorites to take the number-two slot in the show which will wrap up next Saturday, Feb. 18, in the final round at Endicott’s Hardy gym.

First round of the playoffs was Wednesday night for the bottom four qualifiers with Pomeroy at Tekoa/Oakesdale and Garfield/Palouse at St. John. Winners of those two openers will match up against the league leaders in a semi-final Friday night. The GP-SJE winner will play at Colton and the Pirate-Nighthawk winner will play at Rosalia. Both games are booked at 6 p.m.

The action will then move to Endicott for the last three rounds. Losers of the first four games will battle through an elimination round Tuesday. The two survivors will play Friday, and the winners of the semi-final round will play the championship game on the same night.

Loser of the title game and the survivor of the consolation round will play the final game next Saturday at Endicott.

Colton signed off in the league race with two more power wins, 66-13 at St. John Friday night and 62-14 over the GP Vikings in the Wildcat home closer Saturday.

Rosalia followed suit with their own set of big wins. They topped Garfield/Palouse 53-35 Friday at Palouse and LaCrosse 57-27 in their home closer Saturday.

Closest game in the Friday round was the 29-point “edge” Pomeroy posted in the 62-33 win over Touchet.

In other Saturday rounds, the fourth-place Eagles booked a 20 -point win, 56-36, over Pomeroy at St. John with and even scoring attack.

Third-place Tekoa/Oakesdale rolled all the way to Touchet and posted a 79-43 win.

Saturday’s round ended the season for the LW Tigercats and Touchet.
