Regional shifts to one game mode

The WIAA has changed this year’s regional round for the B division playoffs to a single, winners advance, game. Eight boys teams will win state tickets Friday and eight girls teams will win state tickets on Saturday.

Last year’s regionals format included two rounds with more weight allowed to the top qualifiers from each district. Top district qualifiers faced off the first night with the winner advancing to state. The loser of that game played the first-day survivor of an elimination game between lower seeded teams.

The format was changed because girls and boys teams from the same school wound up battling to advance at the same time.

FRIDAY- Boys rounds: 2B at Mt. Spokane: Northwest Christian vs. White Swan, 6 p.m .; Colfax vs. Oroville, 8 p.m. 1B at University High Rosalia vs. Sunnyside Christian, 6 p.m .; Colton vs. ACH, 8 p.m.

SATURDAY-Girls rounds: 2B at Mt. Spokane; Northwest Christian vs. White Swan at 4 p.m .; Reardan vs. Entiat at 6 p.m. 1B at University High: St. John/Endicott vs. Sunnyside Christian at 4 p.m .; Colton vs. Trout Lake/Glenwood at 6 p.m.
